How translation works on PDFlee
Drop a PDF and we detect its language and show the price up front — 3 credits per ~10 pages on the standard tier, 5 on the premium (DeepL) tier. Pick the target language, confirm, and download the result: the standard tier places the translated text back where it was, while the premium tier translates the file as a whole document, keeping the original layout, fonts and images intact.
Unlike the free tools, translation runs on our server: the file is uploaded for processing only and deleted the moment your translated PDF is ready — success or failure, nothing is stored. Credits are deducted only when the translation succeeds.
How much does translating a PDF cost?
The price is shown before anything runs: 3 credits per ~10 pages (or ~20k characters) on the standard tier, 5 on the premium DeepL tier. A typical 10-page document is 3–5 credits — about €1.50–2.50, no subscription.
Is my document stored on your servers?
No. Translation needs server-side processing, so the file is uploaded — but it exists only for the duration of the job and is deleted immediately after, whether the translation succeeds or fails. On the premium tier the document is additionally processed by DeepL (an EU-based translation provider) and is not stored there beyond the translation either.
Does the translated PDF keep my layout?
On the premium tier, yes: DeepL translates the file as a whole document, so the original layout, fonts and images are preserved. On the standard tier, images, graphics and backgrounds are kept too — the translated text is painted over the original text areas in a neutral font (Noto Sans), so those patches show a plain background and the original text remains embedded (and selectable) underneath. Scanned (image-only) PDFs are not supported yet on either tier.
What happens if the translation fails?
You are not charged. Credits are deducted only on success; any failure after the deduction is refunded automatically.
